Job summary

Protocol Education are recruiting for a resilient and compassionate 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Durham, supporting a pupil with complex behavioural and additional needs.

You will be the calm, consistent presence the pupil needs, with safeguarding at the forefront. This role is term-time and full-time, offering a supportive school team, guidance from experienced staff and opportunities to contribute to the pupil's learning and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or challenging behaviour.
• Calm and confident in difficult situations.
• Resilient and persistent when progress takes time.
• Able to build relationships with consistency and empathy.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and following agreed strategies.
• Able to work as part of a wider school team.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Support a pupil with highly challenging and dysregulated behaviour.
• Manage incidents (biting, kicking, throwing objects, outbursts).
• Follow individual behaviour support and risk management plans.
• Help the pupil regulate emotions and stay safe.
• Support engagement with learning and classroom activities.
• Build a consistent, positive relationship with the pupil.
• Collaborate with teachers, SEND staff and the school team.
