Job summary

Supply Desk Ltd in Iver is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism, helping access learning and develop communication and independence in a nurturing school setting.

The role involves close collaboration with teachers and SENCO, adapting activities, using visual supports, and promoting inclusive learning while safeguarding the pupil’s wellbeing. If you are patient and reliable, flexible, and DBS-ready, this is a rewarding opportunity.

Qualifications

• Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to remain calm and supportive when managing challenging situations.
• A commitment to promoting inclusion, independence, and positive learning experiences.
• Previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs is desirable but not essential.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated one-to-one support to a pupil with autism throughout the school day.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
• Support the pupil’s academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
• Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to help them feel safe, understood, and supported.
• Adapt learning activities to suit the pupil’s individual abilities, interests, and learning style.
• Use visual aids, structured routines, and clear instructions to support understanding and engagement.
• Support the pupil with transitions between activities and different areas of the school.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive interactions with peers.
• Support sensory needs and help the pupil manage changes in routine or overwhelming situations.
