How you will create an impact

The Frabelux A&H Lead underwriter for Frabelux will report to France and Belgium PCMs. The role is responsible for developing and monitoring the A&H Underwriting Strategy for France and Belgium. The Head of Underwriting will be the one point of contact to ensure efficient flow of underwriting referrals. The role will provide leadership to a team of underwriters to drive high performance across the profit centre.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Lead the Frabelux Underwriting strategy to meet planned financial and operating target.
  2. Direct accountability for the underwriting results with respect to profitability, business mix aligns with pricing assumptions and loss ratio of all risks classifications – manage the combined ratio on all books of underwriting.
  3. Provide comment and analysis on financial metrics reporting as produced to support Head of Accident and Health and EMEA A&H RUM.
  4. Achieve new business and retention objectives.
  5. Deliver on underwriting profit results with focus on loss ratio and combined ratio.
  6. Drive collaborative behaviour across the wider business.
  7. Govern the Underwriting Process.
  8. Coordinate underwriting excellence across the A&H product line, by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards, and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy.
  9. Ensure an appropriate pricing strategy is set within the A&H profit centre.
  10. Responsible for implementing and oversight of the underwriting policy as directed by the EMEA Chief Underwriting Officer along with any training associated therewith.
  11. Manage the self-audit process, co-ordinate information and scheduling of Underwriting Audits. Develop and implement action plans based on audit recommendations and findings, achieve an overall satisfactory audit finding / improved audit finding based on the previous audit finding.
  12. Oversight and management of Peer Reviews.
  13. Support administration of reinsurance treaties are in place. Establish facultative and local treaty reinsurance where required to meet strategic objectives of the A&H profit centre.
  14. Ensure that adequate documentation is maintained to meet internal quality control and external regulatory and legal needs.
  15. Lead and support Product Development with actuaries and local teams.
  16. Manage and oversight of product development for all A&H products, both new and renewal / updated products.
  17. Oversight of contractual documentation including policy wording and sign-off.
  18. Responsible for determining market pricing in consultation with actuarial to meet financial objectives.
  19. Manage relationship with all relevant stakeholders, i.e. legal, compliance, regulatory, actuarial and others.
  20. Manage and monitor multinational business, building successful partnerships and unlock opportunities in country and across the Region.

Technical Skills and Experience Requirements

  1. Minimum of 8 plus years of technical Accident & Health and Employee Benefits underwriting experience.
  2. Previous experience managing a team of underwriters.
  3. Analytical and quantitative skills – proven ability of managing complex data to make sound business decisions.
  4. Proven ability to motivate, train and gain commitment from colleagues.
  5. Strong communication skills at all levels. Able to navigate complex matrixes within the organization, influence stakeholders and affect outcomes.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of regulatory, legal and compliance processes to actively participate in relevant governance committees.
  7. Strong customer service ethic, with a sound understanding of the business processes.
  8. Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and multiple distribution systems.
  9. Strong presentation, prioritization, and time management – execution and results orientation.
  10. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  11. Bachelor / Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
