You’ll receive guidance and feedback while developing research outputs that are clear, structured, and useful to a mission-driven team. The work is remote, flexible, and organised around research needs as they arise. It is particularly suited to students who combine strong analytical and writing skills with a genuine interest in justice-focused legal work.

Accountabilities:
  • Conduct legal and other research supporting initiatives focused on racial, social, and economic justice.
  • Map opportunities and barriers to bringing cases addressing racial, social, and economic justice issues across Europe.
  • Research and analyse relevant laws, regulations, jurisprudence, and legal developments that may inform strategic litigation.
  • Research case management solutions and approaches that could support effective litigation work.
  • Collect, analyse, and summarise information on effective models for movement lawyering and communities of practice.
  • Present research findings and outputs in clear, comprehensive, and structured formats.
  • Work with the team to clarify research questions, establish appropriate methodologies, and determine effective formats for research outputs.
  • Complete assignments according to mutually agreed timelines, with tasks allocated on an ad hoc basis according to organisational needs.
  • Incorporate feedback and guidance to strengthen the quality, relevance, and accessibility of research.
Requirements:
  • Strong research, legal analysis, and writing skills, with the ability to process complex information and communicate findings clearly.
  • Ability to present comprehensive legal and non-legal research in a structured, concise, and accessible manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding or strong interest in racial, social, and economic justice issues.
  • Some familiarity with strategic litigation and its potential role in addressing systemic inequalities.
  • Familiarity with European legal systems, laws, regulations, and/or jurisprudence.
  • Strong written and spoken English, as English is the working language.
  • Proficiency in another European language is considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently while responding effectively to guidance, feedback, and changing research needs.
  • A thoughtful and critical approach to questions of anti-oppression, intersectionality, and justice.
  • Availability within or close to the CET time zone is an advantage.
Benefits:
  • €18 per hour remuneration under a temporary consultancy arrangement.
  • Initial three-month consultancy term, with the possibility of extension where additional research needs remain.
  • Flexible working hours designed to accommodate studies, personal commitments, and remote work.
  • Fully remote working environment.
  • Generally available collaboration window between 11:00 and 16:00 CET, with flexibility outside these hours.
  • Opportunity to contribute to research with potential relevance to strategic litigation and systemic change.
  • Supervision, feedback, and support from an experienced team throughout research assignments.
  • Task-based workload, with the number of hours agreed according to the requirements of each assignment.
  • Applications are reviewed at the beginning of each quarter, with no fixed application deadline.
