Job summary

Alan is building the new standard in prevention insurance with a strong engineering culture and a growing Backend Platform team. You will own core backend building blocks, from the events pipeline to data replication, while shaping the direction of how backends are built at Alan.

We value a product-minded, enabling approach and strong experience with distributed systems, PostgreSQL, and asynchronous Python.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering, with code other teams depend on: libraries, frameworks, pipelines, internal platforms.
• Distributed systems as a daily tool: events and messaging, data replication, transactions.
• PostgreSQL in depth: transactions, locks, replication, query plans.
• You have split a monolith or built services, step by step, while production kept running.
• You measure before you optimise, and you set SLOs and alerts for what you own.
• English working proficiency. French is not required.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend building blocks every Alan product depends on, and make them simple enough that product teams use them without needing us.
• Build and evolve the events pipeline, data replication between services, and the shared runtime.
• Define the backend direction and rules for how Alan builds backends, in collaboration with other engineering teams.
• Lead the transition from a Python monolith to scalable services, while production remains live.
