Mercor seeks researchers to work on CritPt, a public benchmark of research-level physics challenges. This is a distributed, remote engagement focusing on physics subfields and written reasoning as part of every assignment.

Commitment is 10 hours per week for 8–10 weeks, with compensation of $80–$110 per hour. You will match to subfields, contribute by solving or reviewing problems, and produce verifiable, rigorous reasoning for every task.

Qualifications

• PhD in atomic, molecular or optical physics (hard requirement).
• Published work on the specific phenomenon described, not adjacent areas.
• Three to five representative papers with arXiv IDs or DOIs, ideally from the last five years.
• Strong written and oral English; ability to present arguments clearly (B2+).

Responsabilités

• Engage in research-level physics problems within your subfield and contribute to problem creation, solving, reviewing, or auditing as matches are found.
• Produce complete, verifiable written reasoning for every assignment so others can reproduce independently.
• Collaborate remotely in a 10-hour-per-week schedule over an 8–10 week window with flexible hours.
