Mercor is seeking a native Japanese annotator to build and transcribe complex documents with precise structure and reading order. You will annotate, bound and label regions, and ensure faithful transcription of kanji, kana, furigana and handwritten content, handling vertical text and multi-column layouts.

Ideal candidates have professional transcription or editorial background, and a disciplined eye for character-level accuracy.

Qualifications

• You are a native Japanese speaker with full command of kanji, hiragana and katakana, including furigana.
• You have professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or comparable document-intensive work.
• You are exact and value character-level accuracy.
• You are systematic and apply a consistent taxonomy across pages.
• You are comfortable with unfamiliar layouts: vertical text, multi-column documents, handwritten forms.

Responsabilités

• Source publicly accessible Japanese PDFs containing multimodal elements and record their sources.
• Annotate structure by bounding every meaningful region and assign a component type and reading-order index.
• Record relationships by linking regions to their parent figures or tables.
• Transcribe faithfully, reproducing all text including kanji, kana, furigana and handwritten content.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work through a second expert review and ensure accuracy from first draft.
