Mercor is seeking a meticulous Japanese annotator to map document structures and transcribe text on complex pages with high accuracy. You will work on authentic Japanese documents, including vertical text and multi-column layouts, ensuring precise tagging and reading order.

Collaboration includes peer reviews and strict quality checks. Applicants should be native in Japanese, with experience in transcription or editorial work, and a disciplined approach to consistency and detail across hundreds

Qualifications

• Native Japanese speaker with full command of kanji, hiragana and katakana.
• Experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or comparable document-intensive work.
• Exact character-level accuracy is required; a single wrong character is a defect.
• Apply taxonomy consistently across hundreds of pages rather than improvising per document.
• Comfortable with unfamiliar layouts: vertical text, multi-column layouts, handwritten forms.

Responsabilités

• Open and check a task: ensure page is Japanese, legible, and contains no personal details before annotating.
• Annotate structure: bound every meaningful region and assign component type and reading order index.
• Record relationships: link regions to the corresponding figure or table via parent IDs.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce all text exactly as it appears, including furigana and handwritten content.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, page dimensions, flags for tables and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work: undergo second-expert review to ensure quality.
