Job summary

HyLight is building autonomous airships and turning flight data into actionable insights. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will own two core software components: the payload on board the airship and the ops upload tool in our field trucks, ensuring reliable data capture and robust offload.

You will work closely with the data team to deliver scalable, robust, and operator-friendly software across 15 airships and real-world missions.

Qualifications

• Embedded software background in robotics or hardware-facing engineering
• Experience with field deployments and real-world conditions
• Knowledge of field reliability and power/connectors/storage/network considerations
• Bench and field tool proficiency with laptops and terminals
• End-to-end ownership experience in operations or deployment
• Familiarity with recent LLM techniques (agents, tool use, coding assistants)
• Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience
• Bonus: experience with a fleet of connected devices

Responsibilities

• Make Payload bulletproof: ensure complete, valid data on every flight and preflight checks.
• Make the Ops Upload tool fast, safe offload, and resilient to poor connectivity.
• Connect data from airships to the platform and ensure traceability from capture to insight.
• Own the handover and diagnose root causes across hardware, network, and software.
