The next 5-10 years will see the software industry move away from on-premises software solutions towards software delivery via cloud-based services. Oracle's strength lies in its extensive software portfolio, which is widely adopted across the business world.

Our vision is to transition this portfolio to the Cloud, from app servers and development tools to dataset and people management software. We already have the core infrastructure in place.

An Oracle Data Center Technician acts as the technical liaison between technology teams and the Data Center environment. You will troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues, escalate problems appropriately, and maintain documentation on hardware technologies. You should understand all aspects of the equipment supported and seek to innovate and improve processes, including automation for simplification.

You will execute small projects independently and collaborate with your manager on larger projects. The role involves working on a shift rota, including standby duties. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory background checks.

Requirements

The candidate

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
  • Recent graduates and gap year students with interest and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in IT infrastructure support and server administration in a mid-sized environment (200-1000 servers)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in mission-critical operations environments
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25kg and work in cramped or elevated spaces
  • Confident communication skills in virtual environments
  • Strong adherence to processes and the ability to champion them
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written) and professionalism in diverse groups
  • Experience in client-facing support and service
  • Ability to work independently and in remote cross-functional teams
  • Highly service-oriented, reliable, responsible, and self-motivated
  • Proficiency in English

Required Data Center experience

  • Rack stacking and commissioning of new racks
  • Structured cabling skills on fiber and copper (term & test)

Required systems & hardware expertise

  • Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows Servers)
  • Hardware repair, diagnosis, and break/fix
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP troubleshooting)
  • IT hardware concepts (RAID, SAN, x86 architecture, SCSI, FC, Ethernet)
  • Base OS installation and configuration
  • Core OS services: SSH, Telnet, RDP, FTP, NFS, DNS, DHCP

Responsibilities

  • Act as hardware support expert liaison to technical and non-technical teams (networking, compute, compliance, business operations)
  • Understand customer problems and provide timely technical solutions
  • Participate in installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of production server hardware
  • Perform system board level repairs and fault diagnosis to meet SLAs
  • Plan and commission new rack positions
  • Design and commission new whitespace areas
  • Install structured cabling (fiber & copper)
  • Stay updated with new technologies and apply them appropriately
  • Follow health & safety protocols at all times
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Willing to travel within EMEA
