Mercor is seeking a Computational Astrophysics & Cosmology Expert to join our team in Paris on a part-time, project-based basis. You will design graduate-level computational problems that leverage real scientific software to run simulations, interpret results, and design experiments.

You will work independently, refining problem designs based on feedback, using Python and libraries like Astropy in Linux environments and remote sandboxes.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS/PhD or equivalent).
• Proven proficiency with scientific software libraries evidenced in publications or projects.
• Strong Python skills—writing problem setups, validators, and experiments.
• Ability to work independently and refine problem designs based on feedback.
• Comfortable in a Linux/terminal environment with remote compute sandboxes.
• Available for 15–20 hours per week.

Responsabilités

• Design original computational problems using real scientific workflows.
• Test problems against state-of-the-art AI models and refine difficulty.
• Develop problem setups, oracle functions, and solution validators.
• Plan experiments to reveal information not directly visible and read partial results.
