Mercor is seeking a Computational Seismology & Geophysics Expert to design graduate-level computational problems using real scientific workflows. You will create challenging tasks that require solving with open-source software, running simulations, interpreting results, and proposing experiments.

You will collaborate with researchers, test problems against state-of-the-art AI models, and refine them until the difficulty matches target benchmarks.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS/PhD or equivalent).
• Hands-on experience with seismic/geophysics software libraries via research or open-source work.
• Strong Python skills and ability to write problem setups, oracle functions, and validators.
• Ability to work independently and refine problem designs based on feedback.

Responsabilités

• Design problems requiring use of specialized scientific software for simulations and analysis.
• Create multi-step tasks where AI must plan queries and experiments to uncover information.
• Test problems against state-of-the-art AI models and refine to hit target difficulty.
• Contribute to a testing loop and improve problem quality based on results.
