M2 Group in Franklin, TN seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead site development projects from concept to permitting, coordinating engineering disciplines and client relations for quality delivery.

You will mentor junior staff, apply AutoCAD Civil 3D and design tools, and ensure zoning and regulatory compliance on complex residential/commercial sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and P.E. licensure.
  • 10+ years of residential/commercial site design, entitlement, permitting and construction coordination.
  • 2+ years of leading project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Civil Engineer in our Franklin office, you will be responsible for all engineering and technical disciplines that projects involve. You will schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. We establish long-term, meaningful relationships with clients that are focused and integrated with their teams to help them design, manage, and develop their projects. You will work with Project Managers on everything from conceptual layouts to final design and technical permitting. You will be involved in projects from raw or redeveloped land requiring code research, determining project viability, performing overall quality control, and reporting project status regularly.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the preparation of engineering/project documents, including due diligence reports, construction documents, drainage reports, specifications, and construction schedules/estimating.
  • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects.
  • Research and apply various jurisdictional requirements, including "Zoning and Subdivision Regulations", to engineering design.
  • Engineering drawing development from concept through final construction documents, including Site Layout, Grading/Drainage, Utilities, and Erosion Control Design, utilizing engineering and design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Support zoning, ordinance, permit assessments, and cost estimates to determine the feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data.
  • Provide field inspection services, as needed.
  • Apply knowledge and techniques of engineering and best practices.
  • Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments.
  • Understand and apply client’s standards, specifications, codes of practice, and risk tolerance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, subcontractors, etc.
  • Mentorship and training of junior staff.
POSITION PRE-REQUISITES AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee
  • At least 10 years of experience in residential and/or commercial site design, entitlement processes, permitting, and coordinating construction activities through completion
  • At least 2 years of experience managing project teams, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of industry, municipal, regulatory, and business operation standards
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
  • Strong time management, organization, and collaboration skills
