M2 Group is seeking a Director of Finance to lead all financial functions and drive growth from approximately $9M to over $15M in revenue. The role requires deep experience in AEC or professional services, hands-on Deltek expertise, and a track record of strategic leadership.

The DOF will manage accounting, payroll, risk management, and external advisor relationships, partnering with leadership to scale operations while maintaining financial discipline.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance (DOF) serves as a trusted advisor to the President/Founder and is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. This position provides leadership and oversight for all financial, accounting, administrative, risk management, and insurance functions of the company. The DOF will directly supervise accounting, finance, payroll administration, benefits-related financial administration, and other administrative personnel, including future staff added as the firm grows. This role will serve as the primary internal point of contact for M2's external CPA firm, Stambaugh Ness advisors, banking partners, insurance brokers, legal counsel, and other professional advisors.

This position is viewed as a key leadership role within M2 and is expected to play a significant part in helping the firm scale from approximately $9 million in annual revenue today to more than $15 million over the next several years.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) or professional services industry and extensive hands-on experience with Deltek Ajera and Deltek Vantagepoint.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning & Growth

• Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Lead long-range financial planning and scenario analysis.
• Create and maintain a three-year strategic financial plan.
• Support office expansion initiatives, market growth strategies, and acquisition evaluations.
• Assist ownership with succession planning and organizational development efforts.
• Oversee monthly financial reporting and analysis.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital.
• Monitor company profitability and financial performance.
• Oversee banking, lending, insurance, and external financial relationships.
• Coordinate annual audits and tax engagements.
• Manage payroll administration.
• Manage benefits-related accounting and payment functions.

Project-Based Financial Management

• Oversee project accounting utilizing Deltek Ajera and Deltek Vantagepoint.
• Create processes to manage, evaluate, and maintain KPIs and other financial benchmarks.
• Monitor utilization rates, net labor multiplier, effective multiplier, revenue factor, backlog, and project profitability.
• Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
• Partner with project managers and department leaders to improve project performance.
• Manage work-in-process (WIP), accounts receivable, and project risk.
• Establish financial accountability and reporting throughout the organization.
• Oversee the firm’s risk management program and insurance portfolio.
• Manage relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, and risk management advisors.
• Direct administration and renewal of Business Owners Policy (BOP), workers' compensation, professional liability, cyber liability, commercial auto, umbrella/excess liability, and other applicable coverage.
• Monitor claims and coordinate claim resolution efforts.
• Review contractual risk provisions and insurance requirements in coordination with leadership and legal counsel.
• Develop and maintain enterprise risk management practices.
• Support business continuity planning and cybersecurity risk management initiatives.

Leadership & Team Development

• Directly supervise accounting, finance, payroll, benefits administration, and administrative personnel.
• Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement financial and administrative policies that support M2’s strategic objectives, operational effectiveness, and long-term growth.
• Establish performance goals, accountability measures, and professional development plans for direct reports and the finance and administrative functions.
• Build scalable finance and administrative operations systems to support continued company growth.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, service, and continuous improvement.

External Advisor & Strategic Partner Management

• Serve as primary liaison with M2’s external CPA and tax advisors.
• Manage the relationship with Stambaugh Ness, PSMJ, and other AEC industry consultants.
• Collaborate with legal counsel, banking partners, insurance advisors, payroll providers, benefits brokers, and other professional service providers on matters involving financial administration, risk management, and compliance.
• Ensure M2 leverages industry best practices in financial management, risk management, and operational excellence.

POSITION PRE-REQUISITES AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
• Demonstrated track record of success in defining and implementing strategic operational concepts to improve culture, quality, and financial performance.
• Experience within an AEC, engineering, architecture, surveying, consulting, or project-based professional services organization.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Deltek Ajera and Deltek Vantagepoint.
• Experience developing and managing executive dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) for project-based organizations.
• Strong understanding of project accounting and project profitability management.
• Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, and strategic planning.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic business partner to ownership and executive leadership.

Preferred

• CPA or CMA designations, or MBA degree.
• Experience scaling an organization from approximately $5M to $20M+ in annual revenue.
• M&A, acquisition, or integration experience.
• Experience working with PSMJ, Zweig Group, Stambaugh Ness, or similar AEC industry benchmarking and management consulting organizations.
