Job summary

Helsinki Shipyard is seeking a Technical Drafter to join our hull structure design team in Helsinki. You will create and develop structural 2D drawings using AutoCAD, following templates and technical specifications, and select appropriate solutions according to classification rules and structural requirements.

You will work on several ship projects from early design to the completed vessel, gaining a broad understanding of ship design and production processes.

Qualifications

We are looking for a Technical Drafter to join our competent hull structure design team. Currently, we have about 35 designers in the team, and we are growing. Around 2/3 of the team focuses on basic design and calculations, and the other part focuses on production design and production support.

In this role, you will be a key player in the basic design of ships in the yard's hull design department. Your main responsibility will be creating and developing structural 2D drawings using AutoCAD. You will work with existing templates and technical specifications, selecting the appropriate solutions based on classification rules and defined structural requirements.

Your work will be strongly focused on technical drawing and design. You will work on several ship projects and get the opportunity to follow the projects from the early design stages all the way to the completed vessel. While previous experience in shipbuilding is an advantage, it is not required – you will have the opportunity to learn about ship design, classification requirements, and the entire shipbuilding process in the role. Your work is independent, but you also need teamwork skills when working as a part of the hull design team, as well as the yard's extensive design organization.

To succeed in this role, you need:

• Accuracy and an interest in detail-oriented technical design work
• Good communication skills in English
• Experience in structural drawings, Classification Society Rules, or ship design is seen as an advantage, but these can also be learned in the role
