Helsinki Shipyard in Helsinki seeks a structural designer to join the hull design team. You will be independently responsible for the quality, correctness and timeliness of structural work, while collaborating with the hull design group and the broader design organization.
We offer the chance to follow ships from first line to delivery, with a portfolio ranging from superyachts to icebreakers, and the option to work at Helsinki, Turku or Pori offices, including remote possibilities.
Join the shipbuilders – 160 years of top expertise in the center of Helsinki. We are Helsinki Shipyard – a shipyard that has designed, built, and delivered customized, high-quality passenger ships and icebreakers for extreme conditions since 1865. In 2025, we celebrate our 160th anniversary, and we are proud to continue our story in the heart of Helsinki, at the Hietalahti shipyard. With us, shipbuilding is done from start to finish under one roof – from design and hull fabrication to outfitting, interior design, and commissioning. This makes us a unique workplace: you see your own handiwork as part of the whole and get to follow how a massive ship rises in the shipyard hall step by step. Our specialty is in Arctic vessels, but we build everything from superyachts to multi-purpose icebreakers. In fact, we have manufactured about 50% of the world's icebreakers – without us, navigating icy seas would be considerably more difficult.
We are looking for new structural designers for the Helsinki Shipyard team soon. The structural designer operates as part of the shipyard's hull design, with the main area of responsibility being structural and classification design. In the position, you are independently responsible for the quality, correctness, and timeliness of the work. In the work, you can delve into the structural challenges of vessels and develop solutions that meet the highest quality and safety requirements. Although the work is independent, it is done in close cooperation with the hull design team and the shipyard's extensive design organization.
A position at a shipyard where the world's most demanding ships are built. The opportunity to see and learn the entire shipbuilding process from start to finish. With us, you see the ship being built from the first drawn line to the vessel delivered to the customer. Work that combines technology, internationality, and a tangible end result – finished ships on the water. You can work at the Helsinki, Turku, or Pori offices, flexibly also remotely. The support of a professional team and the opportunity to develop your own expertise in top-class projects.
Experience with the following design tools is considered an advantage: AutoCad, Napa Designer and -drafting, AVEVA Marine.
As part of the selection process, a health check, including a drug test, will be performed for the selected persons. In some positions, a security clearance may also be required.
