Global Mechanical Design Lead - Data Center Systems

Job summary

DayOne is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead the mechanical design of mission-critical data center projects across Europe, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and related building mechanical systems.

You will ensure systems are reliable, scalable, maintainable, energy-efficient, and well-integrated with DayOne’s infrastructure, while coordinating with internal teams, consultants, contractors, vendors, and authorities to deliver compliant, high‑quality design solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical, HVAC, cooling, hydronic design preferably in hyperscale, colocation, cloud infrastructure, or other mission-critical data center environments.
• Expertise in mechanical systems for data centers including HVAC, cooling, chilled water, airflow management, and thermal performance.
• Experience with equipment selection, specifications, calculations, design reviews, and coordination of complex design workstreams.
• Knowledge of sustainability, energy efficiency, PUE, reliability, redundancy, maintainability, regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; experience solving technical challenges.
• Experience working in fast-growing, international environments.
• Ability to work on-site and travel as needed.
• Excellent verbal and written English; Finnish or other languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design for data center projects (HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and related systems).
• Oversee cooling architecture, airflow, energy efficiency, and redundancy.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with electrical, architectural, civil, and other stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership to ensure reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
• Review drawings, specs, calculations, and equipment schedules for quality.
• Ensure designs comply with DayOne standards and local regulations.
• Review mechanical equipment against project needs and lifecycle expectations.
• Identify risks and resolve technical issues during design and construction.
