Job summary

Mercor in Helsinki, Finland seeks a meticulous Bengali data annotator to build training data for multilingual document understanding. You will label page regions, bound and transcribe Bengali text, and ensure layout-aware annotations for PDFs with tables, diagrams, or handwriting.

As a native Bengali speaker, you will apply strict reading order and character-level accuracy, collaborating with a second Bengali expert reviewer to ensure quality and consistency across hundreds of pages.

Qualifications

• Native Bengali speaker with full command of Bengali script and orthography.
• Character-level accuracy is essential, including handwriting and handwriting scripts.
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, localization, or related tasks is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Source Bengali documents and annotate structure: identify titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, captions, and reading order.
• Record relationships by linking regions to their parent figures/tables.
• Transcribe all Bengali text faithfully, marking illegible regions.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work through end-to-end checks by a second Bengali expert.
