Macadam, a fast-growing platform used by millions of walkers worldwide, is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to own server-side infrastructure and API design. You’ll collaborate with mobile, product, and data teams to deliver reliable, scalable features, based in Barcelona with a hybrid work model.

You’ll work with NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Google Cloud Platform, shaping the backend to power the app’s growth and impact.

Formación

• 6+ years backend development in high-traffic products.
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills.
• Solid NestJS experience and ecosystem.
• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge: indexing, queries and schema design.
• Hands-on Redis experience.
• Experience with GCP and cloud-native deployment.
• Experience with Prisma ORM.
• Understanding of design patterns, clean architecture and SOLID.
• Comfortable in agile startup environments.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Fluent English.

THE ROLE

As a Senior Backend Developer at Macadam, you will be at the core of our engineering team, designing and maintaining the server-side infrastructure that powers our app for millions of walkers worldwide. You'll work closely with our mobile, product, and data teams to deliver reliable, high-quality features at scale.

This role is based in Barcelona. We're looking for candidates who are already living in the city.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, build, and maintain robust RESTful APIs and backend services using NestJS.
• Architect and optimize data models and queries on PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
• Implement and manage Redis caching strategies to ensure responsiveness at scale.
• Leverage Google Cloud Platform services (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, etc.) to deploy and operate backend infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with the React Native mobile team to define and iterate on API contracts.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Monitor, debug, and continuously improve backend performance and reliability.
• Participate actively in agile ceremonies and help shape our technical roadmap.
• Leverage AI tools to optimize your workflows

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 6+ years of experience in backend development, ideally in a product-driven, high-traffic environment.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Solid experience with NestJS framework and its ecosystem (modules, guards, interceptors, etc.).
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
• Hands‑on experience with Redis.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform services or cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Experience with Prisma ORM or similar ORMs.
• Understanding of software design patterns, clean architecture, and SOLID principles.
• Comfortable working in an agile, fast-moving startup environment.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and strong attention to detail.
• Fluent in English.
