Macadam is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to own the server-side infrastructure powering our app for millions of walkers. You will design robust APIs, optimize data models, and implement caching to ensure performance at scale.

The role is based in Barcelona, with a hybrid culture and strong collaboration with mobile, product, and data teams. We value 6+ years in backend development, expertise in TypeScript/Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Prisma ORM, plus experience with Google Cloud

THE ROLE

As a Senior Backend Developer at Macadam, you will be at the core of our engineering team, designing and maintaining the server-side infrastructure that powers our app for millions of walkers worldwide. You'll work closely with our mobile, product, and data teams to deliver reliable, high-quality features at scale.

This role is based in Barcelona. We're looking for candidates who are already living in the city.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design, build, and maintain robust RESTful APIs and backend services using NestJS.
• Architect and optimize data models and queries on PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
• Implement and manage Redis caching strategies to ensure responsiveness at scale.
• Leverage Google Cloud Platform services (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, etc.) to deploy and operate backend infrastructure.
• Collaborate closely with the React Native mobile team to define and iterate on API contracts.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Monitor, debug, and continuously improve backend performance and reliability.
• Participate actively in agile ceremonies and help shape our technical roadmap.
• Leverage AI tools to optimize your workflows

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• 6+ years of experience in backend development, ideally in a product-driven, high-traffic environment.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Solid experience with NestJS framework and its ecosystem (modules, guards, interceptors, etc.).
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
• Hands-on experience with Redis.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform services or cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Experience with Prisma ORM or similar ORMs.
• Understanding of software design patterns, clean architecture, and SOLID principles.
• Comfortable working in an agile, fast-moving startup environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
