Job summary

Pliant is seeking an Engineering Manager for security to lead a small team of two engineers. You will own security foundations, drive cloud security posture, and shape the function's direction while staying hands-on for lower-priority work.

You'll guide DevSecOps, cloud security, and compliance across PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001 and DORA, and help product teams adopt secure coding practices. Remote-friendly environment with flexible work options.

Qualifications

• Hands-on background in DevSecOps or cloud security with AWS ownership.
• Direct experience with IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, and SCPs.
• Proficiency in Terraform to write secure modules.
• Experience securing containerized workloads (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes).
• Scripting in Python, Bash or TypeScript to automate checks.
• Knowledge of PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, plus vulnerability management.
• Experience managing engineers and making hiring decisions.
• Ability to explain security risks to non-security audiences.
• View on AI as attacker tool and vulnerability response.
• Comfort with AI-assisted development tools and reviewing AI-generated PRs.

Responsibilities

• Own security foundations: Terraform and Docker modules, hardened images for ECS/EKS.
• Drive cloud security posture day to day: IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, GuardDuty.
• Automate compliance evidence collection for PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001, and DORA.
• Run vulnerability management and incident response end to end.
• Build the application security practice through threat modeling and reviews.
• Use AI-native security tooling for VulnOps, red-teaming, and incident response.
• Grow the team: plan hiring to scale security.
