Job summary

WorkMotion is hiring an Engineering Manager for a remote-first, globally distributed team. You will lead, coach, and develop software engineers, champion engineering excellence, and translate strategic goals into actionable technical plans.

You'll collaborate with Product, Platform, AI/ML, Security, and other stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable product capabilities, while shaping how the engineering organization operates as WorkMotion grows.

Qualifications

• Several years of professional software engineering experience, including production systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and the Java ecosystem, ability to review and challenge architectural decisions.
• Proven experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
• Strong technical judgment and the ability to contribute to architecture and technical discussions.
• Experience with modern software development practices, cloud-native architectures, APIs, distributed systems, and CI/CD.
• Strong understanding of software quality, automated testing, observability, security, and operational excellence.
• Experience defining and using engineering metrics to understand team health and drive improvement.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and using AI coding tools across the delivery lifecycle.
• Experience working with Product in an agile environment.
• Strong people-management skills and career development focus.
• Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into structured execution plans.
• Data-informed approach to engineering performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, setting clear expectations and growth.
• Own the team's delivery, execution, and engineering health with realistic commitments.
• Partner with Product to translate priorities into executable technical plans.
• Maintain technical awareness and participate in architecture and design discussions.
• Ensure practices around code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and documentation.
• Drive predictable delivery while balancing feature development, debt, and reliability.
• Collaborate with Principal and Senior Engineers on architecture decisions.
• Use metrics and signals to improve team effectiveness and quality.
• Identify blockers early and coordinate across teams.
