Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Power Systems Protection & Control Application Engineer to bridge advanced power theory with practical algorithm implementation. You will define protection algorithm designs and work with product teams to enable implementation on digital substation platforms.

The role requires 5+ years in protection and control, strong MATLAB/Simulink skills, and experience with RTDS/PSCAD. This position is based in the Basque region, Spain, with global project exposure.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent knowledge or experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in protection and control system design and studies, plus 3 years designing P&C algorithms in relay environments.
• Extensive experience in power system protection, automation, and control product development.
• Proven familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink and power system simulation tools (RTDS, PSCAD, ATP/EMTP).
• Experience publishing and presenting at industry forums and conferences.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed design specifications for protection and control algorithms.
• Conduct proofs of concept using PSCAD, RTDS, or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Lead root-cause analyses of protection algorithm incidents.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve algorithm/product issues.
• Publish technical papers and present at industry events.
• Prepare and deliver training materials and courses.
