Ready to shape the technology of a financial services giant from the inside?
Our client is one of the most respected names in financial services, backed by an internationally recognised industrial group with operations across banking, insurance and mobility finance
This is a business where technology sits at the heart of every decision, and where the outgoing IT Director is handing over a well-run, high-performing organisation to someone who can bring a fresh, forward-looking vision, particularly around data and AI
The company is now looking for an IT Director to lead its entire technology function from its Madrid area offices, reporting directly to the local Managing Director and sitting on the company’s leadership committee
Main Responsibilities
- Define and propose the company's IT strategy, covering standards, methodology, tools, project planning and outsourcing criteria
- Direct and supervise the development and implementation of all projects related to the company's core systems and applications
- Oversee the daily execution of technology processes, ensuring systems performance, timeliness and reliability across the board
- Build and manage the IT Department's annual budget, covering operating costs, the project portfolio and service provider contracts
- Establish the mechanisms needed to resolve operational incidents quickly, keeping systems running and users well supported
- Lead the analysis of internal processes and drive continuous improvement across the technology function
- Evaluate improvement ideas and tooling requests from internal stakeholders, setting priorities and reporting recommendations to senior leadership
- Track emerging technologies in the market and lead studies on new implementations to keep the company's systems and tools ahead of the curve
- Organise and coordinate the teams reporting into the role (infrastructure, development, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, GRC, and data & AI), setting objectives and supporting their growth
- Ensure information and service management practices stay aligned with national, international and group-level regulatory standards, supporting audits as needed
Core Skills/Experience
- A university degree is required
- Experience working in banking, insurance or mobility/financial services industries
- Full professional-level English and Spanish are essential, as the role involves regular, in-depth discussions with international headquarters and stakeholders
- Solid experience leading large, multidisciplinary technology teams, ideally including infrastructure, development, architecture, cybersecurity and/or data functions
- A track record of managing significant technology budgets and third-party vendor relationships
- Comfortable operating at board level, with strong negotiation skills across internal teams, external providers and international counterparts
- A calm, structured approach to problem-solving under pressure, with the ability to keep teams focused when things go wrong
- A genuine interest in where data and AI are heading, and the ambition to bring that vision into a traditional, highly regulated organisation
