Job summary

Gamma Recruitment is assisting a global multinational client in Madrid with a Senior Director of Engineering – Global IT. The role leads eight domain teams, including core business, back-office, data platforms and loyalty systems, reporting to the Global CIO.

The position focuses on owning software delivery, establishing architecture standards, driving AI adoption, and aligning engineering work with business outcomes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in technology, with at least 5 in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering SAP and back-office solutions in complex, international environments.

We are looking for our client, a really global multinational large company, in B2B2C Business Services, with very high volume of clients & transactions the role of

SENIOR DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING- GLOBAL IT

The goal is to give the Group full ownership of software delivery, improve speed and quality, and directly connect engineering output to business outcomes

This person will lead the engineering teams responsible for core Business, back-office and data platforms, establishing the architecture foundation and engineering standards that will sustain the company's growth over the next five years. This role reports to the Global CIO and is a member of the IT Leadership Team.

This role has primary ownership across eight strategic domains.

• 1. Company Operations and Distribution Deliver the product roadmap for CRS, PMS, POS and M&E and align with strategic partners' investment and timelines.
• 2. Loyalty Engineer and evolve the loyalty platform to support multichannel recognition, guest engagement and integration with CRM and e-commerce.
• 3. Back Office - SAP and Finance Lead the internalisation of functional teams for One ERP and P2P applications. Own the engineering support and evolution of SAP environments across the organisation.
• 4. Enterprise Architecture- Define and govern the end-to-end application architecture strategy aligned with business priorities and the five-year plan. Ensure architectural decisions are documented, governed and communicated across engineering, product and business teams. Set the standards for scalability, resilience, security and cost effectiveness across the full technology stack.
• 5. Integrations Invest in and own the integration architecture and platform strategy, ensuring Company systems connect efficiently and reliably with internal and external platforms. Govern integration standards and reduce point-to-point dependencies across the architecture.
• 6. Data Engineering- Define data architecture and guarantee data quality, management and reporting. Build and sustain the data engineering foundation that enables analytics, AI and business intelligence across the organisation. Build a unified view of information to serve a global organisation.
• 7. Quality Assurance -Internalise the quality assurance capability for web and applications, including new model definition, AI-driven QA tools and processes, onboarding of internal resources and documentation and knowledge transfer.
• 8. Web and Cloud- Maintain and evolve the Company web and cloud platforms with a focus on performance, stability and cost effectiveness.. Web and cloud remain important but are not the primary engineering focus of this role.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Lead Engineering Delivery

• Own end-to-end software delivery across all eight domains.
• Implement and evolve an agile delivery model with cross-development teams organised around digital products, working in short iterative cycles that break down silos and reduce provider dependency.
• Drive quality, speed and reliability across all engineering domains.

Build Internal Engineering Capabilities

• Internalise engineering capabilities including DevOps, monitoring, quality assurance, release management and application management.
• Reduce dependency on external providers while maintaining strategic partnerships where they add value.
• Build, develop and retain a high-performance engineering organisation.

Set Architecture Direction

• Lead enterprise architecture governance and ensure all engineering decisions are aligned with the long-term technology strategy.
• Challenge and guide teams on architectural choices, ensuring simplicity, scalability and business fit.
• Be the final technical authority on architecture, integration standards and data platform decisions.

Embed AI and Automation

• Embed AI across the operating model to streamline ways of working, increase team efficiency and reduce delivery costs.
• Apply AI-driven approaches to QA, integration monitoring and data quality management.

Align Engineering to Business Outcomes

• Steer teams by clear KPIs.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Finance and Business stakeholders to ensure engineering priorities reflect business urgency and measurable ROI.

Manage Cost and Performance

• Build a robust strategic IT sourcing capability and centralise IT services with clear roles.
• Evaluate cost-saving opportunities and track engineering performance with clear, consistent metrics across all domains.

Experience

• 10 or more years in technology, with at least 5 in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering SAP and back-office solutions in complex, international environments.
• Demonstrated experience in enterprise architecture, integration platforms and data engineering.
• Background in establishing QA functions and embedding quality practices at scale.
• Experience in hospitality systems, distribution platforms or loyalty technology is highly valued.
• Hospitality, travel or retail technology background is a strong plus.

Technical Skills

• SAP engineering and back-office platforms (ERP, OneERP, P2P).
• Hospitality systems: PMS, CRS, POS, M&E, Loyalty.
• Enterprise architecture frameworks and governance.
• API design, integration architecture and middleware platforms.
• Data engineering: data architecture, master data management, data quality and analytics platforms.
• QA strategy: test automation, AI-driven QA tools and regression frameworks.
• Cloud-native development and CI/CD practices.

• Web platform engineering is valued but not the primary requirement.
