Job summary

Ikano Bank in Denmark is seeking a senior leader to head the NPL & Collections team across multiple markets. You will define end-to-end collections strategies spanning early to late stages, including legal pathways, and drive performance improvements within a prudent risk framework.

Fluent English and 7+ years in banking with cross-market collections or credit risk are expected, with strong vendor management and transformation experience. The role is permanent, full-time, based in Glostrup.

Purpose of the Job

This is a multi-market vacancy and candidates in all markets where Ikano Bank operates will be considered.

Responsibilities of the Job
  • Lead and develop the NPL & Collections team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and improvement-oriented culture.
  • Define and implement end-to-end collections strategies across early and late stages, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency across markets.
  • Optimize NPL portfolio performance, including recoveries, cure rates, write-offs, and cost efficiency.
  • Manage external collection agencies and debt buyers, including vendor selection, allocation, benchmarking, and performance optimization.
  • Implement collection principles, settlement strategies, and operational processes, including legal and insolvency pathways.
  • Monitor and analyze NPL and collections KPIs, identifying risks and improvement opportunities, and driving corrective actions.
  • Ensure closed-loop feedback into the Credit Portfolio Analytics team, contributing to continuous improvement of the credit lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance, including implementation of new or updated regulations.
  • Collaborate closely within the Credit function, especially the Credit Framework & Excellence team, Commercial, Digital, Finance, and local markets to align strategies and optimize overall portfolio performance.
  • Drive transformation initiatives, including process optimization, automation, and data-driven enhancements within collections and NPL management.
Education Level

Bachelor's Degree

Experience/Demonstrated Competencies
  • 7+ years of experience in banking, with a strong focus on collections, NPL management, or credit risk.
  • Proven experience in managing collections processes and/or NPL portfolios across markets.
  • Experience in vendor management, including collection agencies and debt sale partners.
  • Ideally leadership experience, including managing teams and driving performance.
  • Experience working within regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Proven track record of improving recovery performance and operational efficiency.
  • Experience working in international and multi-market environments.
  • Experience working in transformation initiatives, process optimization, or automation is a strong advantage processes.
Language Competencies

Fluency in English, additional languages are advantageous

Knowledge required
  • Understanding of collections and non-performing loan management across the full lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of debt collection processes, debt sales, and recovery strategies.
  • Understanding of credit risk management, default management, and portfolio performance drivers.
  • Good knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks related to lending and collections.
  • Familiarity with vendor management, including working with collection agencies and debt buyers.
  • Understanding of legal frameworks, insolvency processes, and settlement strategies.
  • Knowledge of data analytics, reporting, and performance monitoring in a credit risk environment.
  • Awareness of cross-market differences and operating models in collections.

  • Ability to optimize recovery performance through settlement strategies, restructuring approaches, and legal/insolvency pathways.
  • Strong understanding of operational levers in collections (e.g., contact strategies, channel mix, outsourcing models) and how to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex collections and NPL topics clearly to senior stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Capability to balance operational performance management with strategic development and transformation initiatives.
