Job summary

BMW Group in Ulm is seeking an experienced software engineer to ensure Linux and Android embedded platform stability across software deliveries. You will analyze performance and boot issues, debug across kernel, frameworks, and drivers, and perform root-cause analysis with tracing and profiling tools.

The role requires 5+ years in Linux/Android embedded systems, strong debugging skills, and fluent business English. German is a plus. Relocation and flexible work arrangements are available.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Linux and Android embedded systems.
• Extensive experience with Linux kernel, Android framework, system services, boot process, and resource management.
• Advanced knowledge of debugging, tracing, profiling, and performance analysis tools (GDB, Perf, Perfetto, ADB, Logcat).
• Experience analyzing crashes, memory leaks, deadlocks, kernel panics, ANRs, and bottlenecks.
• Professional experience in embedded software development and automotive QA.
• Very good business English; German a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure system stability for Linux and Android-based embedded platforms across software deliveries.
• Analyse and resolve complex performance, boot, memory, CPU load, and system services issues.
• Debug cross-layer issues across kernel, frameworks, HALs, middleware, drivers, and applications.
• Perform root cause analysis using tracing, profiling, and debugging tools.
• Examine crash dumps, kernel panics, ANRs, watchdogs and memory leaks to improve robustness.
• Develop proofs of concepts, validation solutions, and automation tools for analysis and monitoring.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvements in platform reliability and software quality.

What should you bring along?

• Experience in analysing crashes, memory leaks, deadlocks, conditions, kernel panics, ANRs, and performance bottlenecks.
• Professional experience in embedded software development and quality assurance in the automotive industry.
• Very good business English skills; German language skills are an advantage.
