Your Role
As a Senior Unreal Technical Artist, you will help bridge the gap between art and engineering, creating robust, scalable solutions that improve visual quality, production workflows, UI implementation, and in-game performance. The role encompasses materials, shaders, VFX, Niagara, UI, character and animation pipelines, procedural tools, and content pipeline development, working collaboratively with engineers, artists, and designers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support technical art solutions across Unreal Engine 5, including materials, shaders, VFX, UI, procedural tools, character and animation pipelines, and content workflows.
- Create high-quality real-time visual features and effects, which may include environmental effects, combat feedback, weather, water, destruction, UI feedback, animation-driven visuals, or interactive world elements.
- Help build, improve, and maintain scalable art, UI, and content pipelines that allow artists and designers to work efficiently and consistently.
- Work closely with artists, UI/UX designers, engineers, game designers, and other technical artists to improve visual quality, workflow reliability, usability and in-game performance.
- Implement procedural and dynamic systems that respond to the game world such as weather impact, fire propagation, terrain interaction, material variation, UI state changes or animation-driven effects.
- Optimize visual systems, UI and content for performance on high-end PCs and next-gen consoles.
- Prototype new technical art features and integrate them into the game with a focus on scalability, maintainability, usability and visual quality.
- Enhance shaders, materials, particle systems, UI elements, and other visual systems to strengthen atmosphere, readability, feedback, and immersion.
- Debug and troubleshoot technical art, rendering, UI, pipeline and performance issues using Unreal Engine profiling and debugging tools.Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in Unreal Engine, real-time rendering, procedural workflows, UI implementation, VFX, animation technology and technical art pipelines.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a Technical Artist, VFX Artist, Rendering Artist or a similar role in real-time game development.
- Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine, ideally Unreal Engine 5, and experience integrating visual content into production-ready game projects.
- Broad technical art skills across materials, shaders, UI, VFX, Niagara, procedural tools, character pipelines, animation pipelines, optimization or content workflows.
- Good understanding of real-time rendering principles, performance constraints and optimization techniques for games.
- Experience creating or supporting scalable pipelines, tools and workflows for artists, designers or UI/UX teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug visual, technical, pipeline or performance-related issues.
- Proficiency in scripting or technical implementation such as Blueprints, Python, HLSL, C++ or similar is a plus.
- Experience with tools such as Houdini, Substance Designer, Blender, Maya or other procedural/content creation tools is a plus.
- Strong artistic sense with an eye for visual quality, readability, motion, timing, composition and user feedback.
- Ability to collaborate closely with artists, engineers, UI/UX designers and game designers.
- Ability to work onsite in Munich, Germany.
