Job summary

ALTEN Consulting Services GmbH in Germany seeks a skilled Python backend engineer to own AI-powered production applications. You will work with FastAPI/Flask, REST APIs, PostgreSQL and Docker, contributing to CI/CD and cloud-native solutions.

You will collaborate with AI engineers and stakeholders across the business, analyze incidents, optimize performance, and maintain runbooks and documentation for long-term stability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher education in computer science, software engineering, or related technical field.
• Strong background in Python backend development and debugging multi-service codebases.
• Experience with REST APIs, SQL, data modeling and automated testing in distributed environments.

Responsibilities

• Own reliable operation and monitoring of AI-powered production applications.
• Investigate incidents and perform root cause analyses across Python backends, React frontends, APIs, databases and AI integrations.
• Implement bug fixes, hotfixes and improvements with CI/CD and code quality practices.
• Optimize application performance, monitoring, logging, and resilience while automating recurring operational activities.
• Collaborate with AI engineers, cloud/platform teams and stakeholders for deployments and operational excellence.
• Maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides and runbooks for long-term stability.

• have a completed vocational training, university degree, or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field
• bring strong professional experience in Python backend development, including FastAPI, Flask or comparable frameworks, as well as debugging and maintaining complex codebases
• possess solid expertise in REST APIs, PostgreSQL, SQL, data modeling, automated testing and collaborative Git-based development workflows
• have hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native applications, monitoring tools and distributed systems; AWS experience is considered a strong advantage
• understand AI-powered applications, including LLM integrations, RAG concepts, vector databases and AI service architectures, and are fluent in English with excellent communication skills in an international environment
