RIEDEL Communications invites applications for Senior Platform System Engineer - COTS (m/f/d) to lead the COTS hardware foundation for our live video production systems used worldwide. You will optimize compute, video, networking, and storage interactions and tune Windows and Linux for demanding real-time workloads, including SMPTE ST 2110 environments.

The role demands a technical degree or equivalent, several years of hands-on PC/server platform experience, and fluency in English and German.

Qualifikationen

• University degree in a technical discipline or equivalent vocational training with professional experience.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, qualifying, or troubleshooting complex PC/server platforms.
• Strong understanding of compute, audio, networking, storage, OS, and workloads interactions.
• Ability to analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize Windows and/or Linux platforms.
• Experience documenting technical findings and delivering robust engineering solutions.

Aufgaben

• Own and evolve the COTS hardware platform foundation for RIEDEL’s live video production systems worldwide.
• Evaluate, qualify, and optimize system architectures and interactions between compute, video, networking, storage, OS, and workloads.
• Translate requirements into high-performance, ruggedized platform solutions.
• Configure and tune Windows and Linux systems for real-time video and audio workloads, including SMPTE ST 2110.
• Define and execute qualification strategies for performance, thermal behavior, reliability, and lifecycle readiness.
• Develop and maintain validated platform configurations, system images, firmware baselines, and deployment standards.
• Drive hardware lifecycle management, component selection, supplier alignment, and platform transition strategies.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality teams.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own and evolve the COTS hardware platform foundation for RIEDEL’s live video production systems used worldwide.
• Evaluate, qualify, and optimize system architectures and interactions between compute (CPU/GPU), video, networking, storage, operating systems, and application workloads.
• Translate product and software requirements into high-performance, reliable, ruggedized, and manufacturable platform solutions.
• Configure and tune Windows and Linux systems for demanding real-time video and audio workloads, including SMPTE ST 2110 environments.
• Define and execute qualification strategies for performance, thermal behavior, reliability, and lifecycle readiness.
• Develop and maintain validated platform configurations, system images, firmware baselines, and deployment standards.
• Drive hardware lifecycle management, component selection, supplier alignment, and platform transition strategies.
• Act as the technical expert for platform hardware, collaborating closely with Product Management, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality teams.

THAT’S YOU

• A university degree in a technical discipline or a relevant vocational training paired with professional experience
• Several years of hands-on experience designing, building, qualifying, or troubleshooting complex PC and server platforms
• Strong understanding of system architectures and the interaction between compute (CPU/GPU), audio, networking, storage, operating systems, and application workloads
• Proven ability to analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize Windows and/or Linux platforms
• Experience documenting technical findings and converting them into robust, reproducible engineering solutions
• Background in product engineering, IT infrastructure, broadcast technology, high-performance computing, embedded systems, or similar performance-critical environments
• Experience with real-time media processing, broadcast video workflows, virtualization, hardware lifecycle management, or ruggedized systems is a strong advantage
• Fluent English and German skills in combination with a collaborative, hands-on mindset and a passion for solving complex technical challenges
