Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Environment Artist (Stylized Games | Real-Time) based remotely in Germany.

Join an international game development team as a Senior Environment Artist, creating visually striking, immersive worlds that bring gameplay experiences to life. In this hands‑on senior role, you will transform concepts and artistic references into polished, production‑ready environments that combine distinctive stylized aesthetics with real‑time performance. You will shape everything from architectural elements and terrain to props, vegetation, and complete playable scenes. Working closely with Art Directors, Environment Leads, Level Designers, and Technical Artists, you will help establish cohesive visual identities and compelling environmental storytelling. Your expertise will contribute to world‑building quality, gameplay readability, and efficient production workflows. This remote, long‑term opportunity offers significant artistic ownership, creative collaboration, and room for professional growth.

Accountabilities
  • Create high-quality stylized environments, including architecture, terrain, props, foliage, and other world‑building assets.

  • Translate concept art and visual references into compelling, production‑ready environments with strong composition, color, shape language, and atmosphere.

  • Design cohesive spaces that guide player exploration, reinforce environmental storytelling, and maintain clear visual hierarchy.

  • Develop modular asset sets and reusable environment systems to ensure visual consistency and production efficiency across locations.

  • Build and optimize assets throughout the production pipeline, including modeling, UV mapping, texturing, material creation, and level‑of‑detail implementation.

  • Work with materials, shaders, lighting, and set dressing to achieve the intended artistic direction while meeting real‑time performance requirements.

  • Collaborate with Level Designers to ensure environments support gameplay flow, navigation, and readability.

  • Identify and resolve artistic and technical issues directly within the game engine.

  • Partner with Art Directors, Concept Artists, Lighting Artists, and Technical Artists to maintain quality standards and deliver cohesive results.

  • Participate in environment reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support less experienced artists when needed.

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, asset reuse, and overall production efficiency.

Requirements:

You are an experienced environment artist with a strong artistic eye, a solid understanding of real‑time production, and the ability to turn creative direction into polished, playable environments. You can work independently, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and maintain high visual standards while respecting technical and gameplay constraints.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience as an Environment Artist in game development.

  • Experience contributing to commercially released games.

  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating strong environment composition, visual storytelling, atmosphere, and artistic quality.

  • Strong 3D modeling, UV mapping, texturing, and material creation skills.

  • Excellent understanding of shape language, color theory, lighting, scale, composition, and visual hierarchy.

  • Experience creating modular environment assets and assembling complete playable scenes.

  • Proficiency in Blender, Maya, Substance 3D tools, or equivalent 3D modeling and texturing software.

  • Experience with Unity3D, Unreal Engine, or comparable real‑time game engines.

  • Strong knowledge of real‑time optimization, including material budgets, geometry complexity, texture efficiency, and performance constraints.

  • Ability to maintain a consistent visual style while meeting technical requirements and supporting gameplay.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with fluency in English.

Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:

  • Creating stylized environments for mobile games.

  • Working with voxel‑inspired, simplified, or highly stylized visual aesthetics.

  • Using procedural environment workflows, Houdini, or terrain‑generation tools.

  • Creating foliage, vegetation, and diverse biomes.

  • Working with lighting, atmosphere, and shader development.

  • Contributing to co‑development projects or collaborative external production teams.

Benefits
  • Fully remote working environment within an international team.

  • Competitive compensation.

  • Flexible contract options.

  • Full‑time, long‑term collaboration opportunities.

  • Significant artistic ownership and the opportunity to influence world‑building quality.

  • Collaboration with experienced artists, Level Designers, and technical specialists.

  • Opportunities to contribute to memorable game development and co‑development projects.

  • Professional development and opportunities for long‑term growth.

  • Annual team retreats and a supportive studio culture.
