Job summary

Optimus Search Limited is seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a cutting-edge data centre project in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The role is a 12-month rolling freelance contract with an initial start on 2 November 2026 and an opportunity for long-term extensions.

Expect competitive hourly or daily rates with strong emphasis on cost control and commercial governance. The successful candidate will manage costs, BoQs, valuations, variations and payment applications,

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Engineer or Commercial Manager.
• Strong Excel, financial reporting and analytical skills.
• Fluent English essential – German language skills not required.
• Excellent knowledge of cost management, procurement and subcontractor administration.
• Experience with NEC, FIDIC or other construction contracts advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage project costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial reporting throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Prepare and review bills of quantities (BoQs), valuations and cost estimates.
• Oversee subcontractor procurement, tender evaluations and contract administration.
• Assess variations, change orders, contractual claims and payment applications.
• Monitor project expenditure, identify commercial risks and implement cost-control measures.
• Produce monthly financial reports, cash flow forecasts and cost-to-complete assessments.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors and commercial teams.
• Support commercial negotiations, subcontractor settlements and final accounts.
• Ensure commercial activities align with contractual requirements and project objectives.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to join a major, cutting-edge data centre construction project in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a highly advanced, large-scale data centre facility, working alongside an international team of construction, engineering and commercial specialists.

The position offers an initial 12-month rolling freelance contract, with excellent potential for long-term extensions.

Previous data centre experience is highly desirable, although candidates with strong commercial experience on major construction, industrial or MEP projects will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage project costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial reporting throughout the construction lifecycle.
