Job summary

Optimus Search is partnering with a leading international consultancy delivering a major hyperscale data centre development in Cologne, Germany. We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the client-side commercial team on a long-term freelance/contract assignment.

The role focuses on cost control, budgets, valuations and variations, with on-site collaboration alongside project managers, contractors and stakeholders to support procurement and commercial reporting throughout the

Qualifications

• Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor on large-scale construction projects.
• Experience in data centres, industrial construction or similar complex developments.
• Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration and commercial reporting.
• Experience on client-side or consultancy-led projects is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and manage commercial responsibilities onsite.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the commercial and cost management of a major data centre construction project.
• Monitor project budgets, expenditure, cost forecasts and commercial performance.
• Review contractor valuations, payment applications and variations.
• Assist with change management, cost reporting and commercial risk assessments.
• Work closely with project managers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Support procurement activities, contract administration and commercial negotiations.
• Prepare and maintain accurate commercial reports for the client.
• Ensure effective cost control throughout the construction lifecycle.

Location: Cologne, Germany

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Duration: Long-term (Initial 18 months, potential extensions)

The Opportunity

Optimus Search is currently supporting a leading international consultancy delivering a major hyperscale data centre development in Cologne, Germany.

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the client-side commercial team on a long-term assignment.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a major data centre campus that has recently entered construction, with a substantial pipeline of future phases and long-term project opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the commercial and cost management of a major data centre construction project.
• Monitor project budgets, expenditure, cost forecasts and commercial performance.
• Review contractor valuations, payment applications and variations.
• Assist with change management, cost reporting and commercial risk assessments.
• Work closely with project managers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Support procurement activities, contract administration and commercial negotiations.
• Prepare and maintain accurate commercial reports for the client.
• Ensure effective cost control throughout the construction lifecycle.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor on large-scale construction projects.
• Previous experience within data centres, industrial construction or other technically complex developments is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration and commercial reporting.
• Experience working on client-side or consultancy-led projects would be advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and manage commercial responsibilities onsite.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Availability to work onsite in Cologne within the next 4–6 weeks.
