WyoFile serves Wyoming’s civic life with community-supported, nonpartisan, public-interest journalism. To support that mission, we’re looking for a general assignment reporter with public safety and justice system reporting experience. What you’ll do:
  • Copy edit WyoFile stories, columns, partner articles and republications
  • Manage and execute all aspects of daily newsroom story production, publication, promotion and distribution including:
  • Laying out stories and newsletters while helping to develop additional newsletter products
  • Coordinating multiple reporters and editors through simultaneous, multi-step production processes to maximize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks (i.e. keep the trains running on time)
  • Help refine and continually improve WyoFile’s systems
  • Assist with social media posts.
What you’ll need to succeed:
  • A magazine writer’s sense of narrative, a newspaper reporter’s sense of urgency and a nose for a good story. Knowledge of AP style.
  • Unimpeachable professional integrity, reliable sense of fairness and dogged commitment to journalism ethics.
  • Relentless curiosity, merciless critical thinking, a sharp eye for detail and the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • A willingness to ask difficult questions, report uncomfortable truths and dive deep.
  • The ability to work multiple developing stories simultaneously.
  • Team-centric approach and appreciation for collaboration.

The details:

Start date: January 2026

Salary range: $65-75K, depending on experience

Reports to: Managing editor

Location: Wyoming preferred, but remote candidates with prior Equality State experience will be considered. Depending on location, this role could be office‑based, home‑office‑based or a hybrid.
