Job summary

Optimus Search is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Dresden to develop precision mechanical assemblies and optical platforms from concept to production. You will design components, assemblies and complete systems, create 3D CAD models, drawings and fabrication documentation for challenging industrial applications.

The ideal candidate holds a Master's in Mechanical Engineering with several years of experience in Sondermaschinenbau and optical systems, and is proficient in SolidWorks

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Several years of experience in mechanical design or Sondermaschinenbau.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• SolidWorks experience highly desirable; Inventor knowledge a plus.
• Strong understanding of tolerances, manufacturing and assembly requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop, calculate and design mechanical components, assemblies and complete systems for optical platforms and special purpose machinery.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, 2D drawings and technical assembly documentation.
• Prepare production-ready designs and documentation; ensure compliance with requirements.
• Perform mechanical design calculations, tolerance analysis and component selection.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Procurement, QA and Service to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Liaise with external suppliers on specifications and availability.
• Present design concepts and project progress during meetings.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for machinery and components.
• Support development and optimization of precision mechanical and optical platforms.
• Provide technical engineering support through full product life cycle.

We are currently recruiting for an innovative, internationally operating high-tech company specialising in advanced engineering, precision machinery and optical technologies.

Our client develops sophisticated mechanical systems and customised equipment for demanding industrial applications, including semiconductor manufacturing, photonics and advanced materials technology.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d) to join their engineering team in Dresden.

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, developing precision mechanical assemblies and optical platforms from initial concept through to production and ongoing product development.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop, calculate and design mechanical components, assemblies and complete systems for optical platforms and special purpose machinery.
• Create and modify detailed 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings and technical assembly documentation.
• Prepare production-ready designs and documentation, ensuring compliance with manufacturing, assembly and inspection requirements.
• Perform mechanical design calculations, tolerance analysis and component selection.
• Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality Assurance and Service departments to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Liaise with external suppliers regarding component specifications, manufacturability, technical requirements and availability.
• Present design concepts, technical solutions and project progress during engineering and development meetings.
• Create, update and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for machinery, assemblies and individual components.
• Support the continuous development and optimisation of precision mechanical and optical platforms.
• Provide technical engineering support throughout the complete product life cycle, from initial development to production and ongoing improvements.

Your Profile

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
• Several years of professional experience in mechanical design, special purpose machinery (Sondermaschinenbau), precision engineering or a similar technical environment.
• Strong experience using 3D CAD software and producing detailed technical manufacturing drawings.
• SolidWorks experience is highly desirable; Autodesk Inventor knowledge would be an advantage.
• Good understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerance calculations, manufacturing processes and assembly requirements.
• Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies, precision components or optical systems would be beneficial.
• Ability to work independently, solve technical problems and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• A structured, analytical and detail-oriented approach to engineering.
• Very good written and spoken German and English communication skills.
