Job summary

Airbus Operations GmbH in Bremen is seeking a Master Thesis student to research surface preparation processes for carbon fibre reinforced polymers before paint application. You will evaluate how process parameters affect surface quality and adhesion using standard and novel methods, contributing to a transnational team.

Start as soon as possible for a 6-month duration. The project offers an attractive salary, 35-hour week, and opportunities for international collaboration within the team.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student in Material Science or equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge on CFRP and its manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of CFRP and respective manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of surface technology and processes (pre-treatment, paint application).
• First experience with surface characterization methods for CFRP and paints.
• Fluent in English; German would be a plus.
• Creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.
• Experience in project management.

Responsibilities

• Manage the master thesis as a project with guidance from the project team.
• Literature review on materials & processes and test methods for CFRP surfaces.
• Coordinate with stakeholders; ensure deliverables (test plans, interim reports, presentations) on time and within quality and cost.
• Evaluate test results and provide conclusions.
• Work in a transnational project team.

Job Summary

In order to support the department Airframe Materials and Processes Research & Technologies (M&P R&T), Airbus Operations is looking for a Master Thesis student to research novel surface preparation processes for carbon fibre reinforced polymers before paint application. Your task will be the evaluation of the influence of process parameters on surface quality properties using standardized and new methods with a specific focus on adhesion testing. We look forward to you supporting us in our team as an intern (d/f/m)!

Location

Bremen (Germany). Physically based in the city of Bremen, with a transnational team including colleagues in Hamburg, France (Toulouse), Spain (Getafe – Madrid), and the UK (Filton – Bristol).

Start: As soon as possible. Duration: 6 months.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Manage the master thesis as a project with guidance from the project team
• Perform a literature review of existing materials & processes, and corresponding test methods for the investigation of CFRP surfaces key properties
• Liaise with the different stakeholders and ensure the deliverables e.g. test plans, interim reports, presentations are delivered on time, quality and cost
• Evaluation of the test results and provide conclusions
• Work in an transnational project team

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) in the area of Material Science or an equivalent field of study
• Knowledge Extensive knowledge on CFRP and respective manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of CFRP and respective manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of surface technology and processes (pre-treatment, paint application)
• First experience with surface characterization methods for CFRP and paints
• Fluent in English, proficiency in German would be a plus
