Hauptaufgaben

Serves as a Writer-Editor for the Document Management Branch (DMB), Office of Knowledge Management, Headquarters, United States Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF). Provides editorial support, in English, in the development, preparation, and finalization of Army Europe and Africa (AEA) publications and forms. Reviews content to ensure consistency of information and clarity of expression. Edits and rewrites the content of publications to make material understandable without altering meaning. Reviews publications for correct grammar, usage, punctuation, spelling, and legibility. Updates graphics in publications, as necessary. Works with staff offices throughout the Army in Europe and Africa on the management of their publication's portfolios, and on the processing of those items through to publication. Edits forms according to the objectives of the procedures they support. Edits correspondence (letters, memorandums, notes) for the United States Army Europe and Africa Command Group. Reviews the editorial work of colleagues. Works primarily on MS Office platforms and on Adobe.

  1. Write and Edit for the Command. Review manuscripts for content and propriety and revise any elements of duplication or conflict with existing or proposed publications. Extract, appraise, and assign credence to written or verbal information submitted by civilian and military personnel. Conduct background material searches, which includes assembling and reading extensive reference material; performing research; and conducting verbal and written exchanges with subject matter experts (SMEs) and proponents. Work closely with project officers and SMEs in editing AEA publications (supplements, regulations, circulars, pamphlets, posters, command policy letters, and command memorandums) and USAREUR-AF Command Group correspondence. Compare text with approved outlines, concepts, and current or revised doctrine, rewriting as necessary to amend for clarity. Consider target audience and determine the best style and manner for presentation of the material. Revise texts as needed in concert with the proponents of them to ensure legibility.
  2. Review Publications and Correspondence. Review the editorial work of the other members of DMB, providing revisions and recommendations for clarity and legibility. Offer in-text suggestions in accordance with AR 25-50, Preparing and Managing Correspondence; DA Pamphlet 25-40, Army Publishing Program Procedures; the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) Style Manual; and editorial judgment and discretion.
  3. Manage Publications and Correspondence. Work in concert with the proponents of AEA publications from USAREUR-AF and Installation Management Command Europe (IMCOM-E) on the management of their portfolios to ensure the currency of them. Work in concert with the front offices of the USAREUR-AF Command Group; the Office of the Chief of Staff; the Secretary of the General Staff; and the staff directorates on the management of command memorandums and Command Group correspondence. Coordinate with the Office of the Judge Advocate (USAREUR-AF) and the Staff Judge Advocate (IMCOM-E) to obtain legal reviews on publications. Serve, on a regular, rotational basis, as the lead editor for USAREUR-AF Command Group correspondence; and for the management of those items for DMB. Work with all members of DMB on the management of publications and correspondence, and on providing status updates therein to ensure depth of coverage on all portfolio items.

C-7

E‑T Level I: 2 years of creditable experience as defined in A below PLUS 5 years of experience as defined in B below.

Current employees who do not meet E‑T Level I and who are not in the same or similar occupation must have 2 additional years of creditable experience as described in A below.

E‑T Level II: 1 year of creditable experience as defined in A below PLUS 5 years of experience as defined in B below.

E‑T Level III: 4 years of creditable experience as defined in B below.

E‑T Level IV: 3 years of creditable experience as defined in B below.

E‑T Level V: 2 years of creditable experience as defined in B below.

Current employees who have served one year in the same or similar occupation are qualified for the next higher grade.

  • Office automation skills required.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL

English Language Proficiency AND German Language Proficiency Level C1 required.
