Job summary

MAHLE invites applications for an internship in Metallography at the Central Material Laboratory in Stuttgart. You will help develop preparation procedures for vibration polishing and ion milling, and you will evaluate results with optical and scanning electron microscopy.

The 6‑month program starts Feb/March 2027 and offers an engaging, hands-on environment. Eligible students should study Materials Science/Engineering/Metallurgy or a related field, with a strong interest in metallographic

• Familiarity with metallographic methods such as grinding, polishing, and microscopy is preferred.
• Good command of German or English, both written and spoken.

Tasks

• Development of preparation procedures for vibration polishing of various materials.
• Development of preparation procedures for ion milling of various materials.
• Evaluation of preparation results using various microscopic techniques, including optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Requirements

• Currently, purely voluntary internships cannot be offered
• Enrollment in the degree program Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with metallographic methods such as grinding, polishing, and microscopy is preferred
• Very good command of German or English, both written and spoken
