Job summary

Airbus Defence and Space GmbH in Munich/Bavaria invites an intern to join the X-Labs department and contribute to Flight Control Systems. You will assist in flight control law development, MATLAB/Simulink modeling, and hardware integration within a fast-paced, international team.

The 6-month internship offers a 35-hour work week, potential for a final thesis, and opportunities for travel and networking within Airbus.

Qualifications

• Must be an enrolled full-time student in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Fluency in English; German skills are advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with SIL/HIL or simulation environments.
• Exposure to hardware integration, avionics or embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in flight control law development, modeling and refinement.
• Develop FCC dynamic algorithms and ensure aircraft responsiveness.
• Translate data into MATLAB/Simulink models for SIL testing.
• Conduct SIL tests to validate control architecture and safety margins.
• Lead trade studies to select and integrate flight control hardware.

• Start: as soon as possible
• Duration: 6 months

Within the X‑Labs organization, we are targeting advanced technological breakthroughs that could be key enablers of the next generation products at Airbus. Your Tasks And Responsibilities

• Flight Control Law Development & Simulation: Assist in the design, modeling, and refinement of flight control laws to meet performance and handling requirements.
• Develop FCC dynamic algorithms: Design and optimize dynamic algorithms for the Flight Control Computer (FCC) to ensure reliable aircraft responsiveness.
• Implement control strategies in MATLAB/Simulink: Translate aerodynamic data and control theory into high-fidelity digital models.
• Conduct Software-In-The-Loop (SIL) simulations to validate control architecture stability: Run rigorous tests to analyze system performance and safety margins.
• Hardware: Lead trade studies to evaluate, select, and integrate core flight control hardware for your specific project scope, ensuring seamless communication between sensors, actuators, and the FCC.

Desired Skills And Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) within Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Language skills: English Fluent, good German skills would be an advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Previous project team experience (e.g., Design Build Fly, Formula SAE, university rocketry/UAV teams).
• Familiarity with simulation environments like Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
• Exposure to hardware integration, avionics, or basic embedded systems.
• Eagerness to learn and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
