Job summary

Airbus Defence and Space GmbH in Munich area is seeking an enthusiastic Flight Control Systems internship (d/f/m) to support X-Labs. The role focuses on flight control law development, FCC dynamic algorithms, and MATLAB/Simulink implementations.

You will collaborate with a diverse team in an international environment, work on SIL/HIL simulations, and explore hardware integration within an innovative aerospace context. 6 months, start ASAP, 35-hour week with flexitime.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering or related field.
• Fluent English; German skills are advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in project teams (e.g., DBF, Formula SAE, university rocketry/UAV).
• Familiar with SIL/HIL simulation environments.
• Exposure to hardware integration, avionics or embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, modeling, and refinement of flight control laws to meet performance requirements.
• Develop dynamic algorithms for the Flight Control Computer (FCC) to ensure reliable responsiveness.
• Translate aerodynamic data and control theory into high-fidelity digital models in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Run SIL simulations to validate control architecture stability and performance margins.
• Lead trade studies to evaluate and integrate core flight control hardware and ensure sensor-actuator-FCC communication.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• Flight Control Law Development & Simulation: Assist in the design, modeling, and refinement of flight control laws to meet performance and handling requirements.
• Develop FCC dynamic algorithms: Design and optimize dynamic algorithms for the Flight Control Computer (FCC) to ensure reliable aircraft responsiveness.
• Implement control strategies in MATLAB/Simulink: Translate aerodynamic data and control theory into high-fidelity digital models.
• Conduct Software-In-The-Loop (SIL) simulations to validate control architecture stability: Run rigorous tests to analyze system performance and safety margins.
• Hardware: Lead trade studies to evaluate, select, and integrate core flight control hardware for your specific project scope, ensuring seamless communication between sensors, actuators, and the FCC.

Desired skills and qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) within Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Language skills: English Fluent, good German skills would be an advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Previous project team experience (e.g., Design Build Fly, Formula SAE, university rocketry/UAV teams).
• Familiarity with simulation environments like Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).
• Exposure to hardware integration, avionics, or basic embedded systems.
• Eagerness to learn and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
