• Ensure designs comply with German/European standards and energy efficiency requirements.
• Review contractor and supplier submissions (equipment data, installation proposals).
• Support installation, testing and commissioning, resolve site technical issues.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports and handover information.
• Attend project meetings and communicate progress, risks and technical matters.

About the role

Our client is looking for an HVAC Engineer to join the team on a contract basis, supporting the design, coordination and delivery of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across a range of projects.

The successful candidate will work with project managers, design teams and site colleagues to develop HVAC solutions that meet technical, regulatory and client requirements. The role covers calculations, system design, specification and technical coordination, with involvement from early design stages through to installation and commissioning support.

This is a position for an HVAC engineer who is comfortable working independently within a project team and who can balance technical detail with delivery deadlines. It offers varied project exposure and the chance to make a direct contribution to the delivery of building services and engineering schemes in Germany.

Main responsibilities

• Design and develop HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, cooling and air conditioning
• Carry out heating and cooling load calculations, duct and pipe sizing and equipment selection
• Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, schematics and bills of quantities
• Coordinate HVAC design with architectural, structural, electrical and other building services disciplines
• Ensure designs comply with relevant German and European standards, regulations and energy efficiency requirements
• Review contractor and supplier submissions, including equipment data and installation proposals
• Support installation, testing and commissioning, and resolve technical issues on site where required
• Prepare technical documentation, reports and handover information
• Attend project meetings and communicate progress, risks and technical matters to the wider team
• Contribute to cost control and value engineering where appropriate

Requirements

Essential

• Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline
• Proven experience as an HVAC engineer, covering design and project delivery
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, load calculations and building services design principles
• Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations applicable in Germany
• Experience using HVAC design and CAD tools
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

• Experience in industrial, commercial, healthcare or data centre projects
• Experience with BIM and coordinated 3D design
• Experience supporting commissioning and handover
• Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability requirements for buildings
• Experience working in an international or multi-disciplinary project environment
