OpenSanctions Datenbanken GmbH is hiring an HR Coordinator on a 50% basis (roughly 20 hours/week) to own recruiting, onboarding, contracts, and HR policy across multiple countries. The role emphasizes German labor law compliance for Berlin-based staff and cross-border employment setups.
You’ll work in a remote-first, async environment, collaborating with the operations lead and other teams. English fluency is required; German at least B2 is preferred. Deel experience is a plus.
OpenSanctions helps to keep people and companies accountable for their political and economic actions. We build a database that tracks a wide range of entities in the public interest: sanctioned companies, politicians, fraudsters, and criminals. Originally built to support anti-corruption journalists, OpenSanctions has also become a powerful tool used by hundreds of commercial clients worldwide for know-your-customer screening, legal compliance, and in-depth investigative analysis.
We are a small, bootstrapped, sustainable business. Transparency and accessibility are core to how we work. Through our public-access search, we serve a public interest mission to make global sanctions and watchlists accessible to the public.
We are hiring an HR Coordinator to join our team on a part-time (50%) basis.
You’ll own the people side of a small international team as it grows, from recruiting and onboarding through day-to-day HR operations, compliance, and HR policy. About half the team works remotely, so you’ll be working across different countries, time zones, and employment set‑ups. As part of the operations team, you’ll work closely with the operations lead, improving our processes and building out the ones we need as the organization matures. Expect a mix of active recruiting, contracts and documentation, and being the go‑to person for people‑related questions across a distributed team.
You understand that HR for a small, growing team isn’t just paperwork. It’s how we hire well, treat people fairly, and stay compliant.
We value diversity of all kinds in our team, and encourage applications from people of all ethnicities, ages, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Even if you feel like you don’t have all the 'nice-to-haves', please do apply.
