Chelmsford City Council is recruiting a Homeless Officer to join the Strategic Housing Service. This role focuses on preventing homelessness and making decisions under homelessness legislation, with a customer‑focused, proactive approach.
You will work with people experiencing homelessness and those with complex needs, manage cases, and collaborate with partners. The post is permanent, full-time (37 hours per week) with a hybrid pattern (3 days remote).

Due to the expansion of our Homeless Team, Chelmsford City Council's Strategic Housing Service are recruiting Homeless Officers to join our busy Homeless Team, working with people to prevent homelessness and make decisions as to the Council's duties under the homelessness legislation.
This is a challenging role but one that is also very rewarding, with the knowledge that you are working with others to make a real difference to help those in difficult situations.
The successful applicant will have the necessary skills to apply a customer-focused, proactive problem-solving approach in order to successfully work with people experiencing homelessness and those with complex needs. Effective decision-making skills, case management experience and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines are essential criteria of the role.
Permanent position, on a full-time basis working 37 hours per week.
Interviews are currently scheduled for 12th and 13th October 2026.
