Job summary

Motus Partners is partnering with a fast-growing industrial robotics company to appoint its Head of Robotics in Germany. The role combines hands-on engineering leadership with strategic system design for a production-grade robotics platform.

You will set the technical direction, own the robotics software stack from concept to production, guide motion planning, control and perception, and mentor a team to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for challenging real-world environments.

Qualifications

Job description

Motus Partners is partnering with a fast-growing industrial robotics company to appoint its Head of Robotics.

Our client is building an AI-powered robotics platform that automates one of the hardest problems in industrial automation: dismantling complex, end-of-life electrification systems at scale. Manual processes can’t keep up with the volumes coming through. Their platform combines computer vision, AI and specialised robotic tooling to recover critical materials and solve that bottleneck.

They have recently closed a substantial Series A backed by leading industrial and climate investors. They’re scaling across Europe and expanding into the US, and they already work with major industrial and automotive partners.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role and the company’s most senior robotics voice. You’ll set the technical direction for the robotics platform, build it out with the team, and make sure it holds up in demanding real-world production environments.

• Set the technical vision and architecture for the company’s robotics platform
• Own the robotics software stack end to end, building it for robustness, scale and long-term evolution
• Take new capabilities from early concept and prototyping into reliable production deployment
• Drive the motion planning, control and perception integration that lets robots perform in variable, real-world conditions
• Define system requirements and specifications that turn product goals into engineering plans
• Help shape the company’s technology and product roadmap alongside the leadership team
• Raise the technical bar across the team through mentoring, design reviews and hands-on problem solving
• Work closely with R&D, product and operations, plus external technology partners where needed
• Senior hands-on robotics experience, with real-world industrial deployments behind you
• Robotics systems you have taken all the way into production, not just prototypes
• Strong ROS/ROS2 depth and experience architecting production-grade robotics software
• Expertise in motion planning and control for industrial manipulators in cluttered, constrained environments
• Familiarity with major industrial robot platforms (e.g. ABB, KUKA, FANUC)
• Comfortable leading technically complex programmes and influencing at leadership level
• Commercial awareness: you understand how engineering choices drive product and business outcomes
• An advanced degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• A hard, meaningful problem at the intersection of robotics, AI and sustainability
• A well-funded company at a genuine inflection point, scaling internationally
• Real ownership as the technical authority for robotics, with high autonomy
