We’re partnering with a growth-stage robotics company developing commercially deployed robotic systems, and they’re looking for a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to take their existing robots from working prototypes to repeatable, scalable production.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role, working directly alongside the Head of Hardware, with ownership across mechanical design, electromechanical integration and manufacturing processes.
The Role
- Redesign robotic arm structures around existing motors and gearboxes, improving stiffness, assembly and manufacturability.
- Finalise the design of a welded steel robot base, optimising for in-house manufacturing and rapid installation.
- Develop and improve gripper mechanisms based on real-world customer applications.
- Build an in-house assembly line, including fixtures, jigs, work instructions and quality control processes.
- Own mechanical and electrical integration, including cable routing, connector placement and strain relief.
- Take mechanical designs from CAD through prototyping, testing and repeatable production.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years' experience designing mechanical and electromechanical systems that have reached production.
- Background in robotics, robotic arms, mobile robots, industrial automation or automotive.
- Strong CAD skills and experience with design for manufacturing, including sheet metal, welded structures, machining, 3D printing and tolerancing.
- Experience taking prototypes into repeatable manufacturing processes and creating assembly documentation.
- Practical experience with machine tools, 3D printers and hands-on mechanical assembly.
- Comfortable working across electrical integration, including wiring, motors and sensors.
Nice to Have
- Actuator and gearbox design experience.
- FEA and structural stiffness analysis.
- Experience with European or Chinese suppliers and sourcing.
- Driving licence.
What’s On Offer
- Direct ownership of the mechanical design and manufacturing process.
- Close collaboration with the Head of Hardware.
- Hands-on access to robotic hardware throughout the development process.
- The opportunity to take a commercially deployed robotic product into scalable production.
- A varied engineering role combining CAD, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.
