Unzer, a leading European fintech, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Payment Processing team in Berlin. You will mentor engineers, contribute to codebase when needed, and guide architectural decisions to ensure reliable payments at scale.

The role requires strong leadership, deep technical know-how (Java/Kotlin/JS), and experience with Agile, CI/CD, and cloud-native environments. A hybrid work setup and visa-not sponsor policy apply.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or similar, with people-management or tech-lead experience.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers, and to build inclusive, motivated teams.
• Strong technical grounding in Java, Kotlin, and/or JavaScript to guide architecture without being hands-on expert.
• Familiarity with Agentic Software Engineering and AI-driven development lifecycles.
• Deep understanding of Agile delivery, CI/CD, and quality practices, plus excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience with cloud-based, containerized environments (Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS) is a plus.
• Fluent in English with excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Our Payment Processing team owns the core of Unzer's platform — the systems that authorise, capture and settle every merchant transaction, at high volume and under strict reliability and compliance demands. We're also building AI into both our tooling and our payment flows. The team is cross-functional and owns its services end to end; as Engineering Manager, you'll lead experienced engineers and work closely with Product, Risk and Operations.

• Contributes to technical and architectural direction, ensuring sound decisions while empowering engineers to own the details.

What you need to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or similar, with substantial software engineering experience and prior people-management or tech-lead experience.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers, and to build inclusive, motivated teams.
• Strong technical grounding (e.g., Java, Kotlin, and/or JavaScript, large-scale systems) sufficient to guide architecture and challenge decisions—without needing to be the hands-on expert.
• Familiarity with Agentic Software Engineering and AI-driven development lifecycles, and how to adopt them within a team.
• Deep understanding of Agile delivery, CI/CD, and quality practices, plus excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills across teams and functions.
• Experience with cloud-based, containerized environments (Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS) is a plus.
• Fluent in English, with excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
