Unzer is seeking an Engineering Manager in Berlin to lead and grow a high‑performing team responsible for the core of our payments platform. You will guide architecture, mentor engineers, and partner with Product, Risk, and Operations to deliver scalable solutions.

You’ll stay hands-on when needed, drive delivery reliability, and champion modern engineering practices, CI/CD, and cloud-native design. Join a cross‑functional team building AI-enhanced tooling and world-class payment flows.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar, with substantial software engineering experience and prior people-management or tech‑lead experience.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop engineers, and to build inclusive, motivated teams.
• Strong technical grounding (e.g., Java, Kotlin, and/or JavaScript, large-scale systems) sufficient to guide architecture and challenge decisions—without needing to be the hands‑on expert.
• Familiarity with Agentic Software Engineering and AI‑driven development lifecycles, and how to adopt them within a team.
• Deep understanding of Agile delivery, CI/CD, and quality practices, plus excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills across teams and functions.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Our Payment Processing team owns the core of Unzer’s platform — the systems that authorise, capture and settle every merchant transaction, at high volume and under strict reliability and compliance demands. We’re also building AI into both our tooling and our payment flows. The team is cross-functional and owns its services end to end; as Engineering Manager, you’ll lead experienced engineers and work closely with Product, Risk and Operations.

What you need to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar, with substantial software engineering experience and prior people-management or tech‑lead experience.

The interview process includes: a 30min intro call with a TA Partner, a 60‑min Hiring Manager interview, a take‑home assignment optional), a 60‑min skills assessment call with the team, and a 30‑min executive interview, 30 min.
