Job summary

Memo3 GmbH, based in Eschborn near Frankfurt, seeks a Consultant to drive automation strategy and architecture for life-science projects. From day one you’ll join client projects and contribute to analyses, concepts, and workshop documentation while helping build Memo3's MTP consulting offering.

You will partner with founders and senior colleagues, own defined work packages, co-create templates and reference architectures, and support MTP method kits.

Qualifications

• Degree in automation, electrical, process, or related field.
• 2–5 years in automation engineering or consulting in pharma or GMP environments.
• Good understanding of control system architectures (PLC, DCS, SCADA/HMI, batch).
• Experience writing requirements or specifications.
• Basic knowledge of GAMP 5 and computerised system validation.
• Confident in client-facing communication.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to automation strategy, target architectures, and standards.
• Document architecture principles across control, SCADA/HMI, and IT layers.
• Carry out assessments and gap analyses; contribute to roadmaps.
• Write user requirements and functional specifications for modular equipment.
• Own defined work packages and report progress to stakeholders.
• Co-facilitate and document client workshops with engineering, IT, and QA.

As a Consultant, you will work in our client projects from day one and contribute to automation strategies and architecture frameworks for life-science manufacturers and equipment suppliers.

You will work closely with the founders and senior colleagues and take over defined work packages: analyses, concepts, specifications, and workshop documentation. At the same time, you will help build Memo3's MTP consulting offering: methods, templates, and reference architectures that we reuse across clients.

Key Responsibilities

Automation Strategy & Architecture

• Support the development of automation strategies, target architectures, and standards for GMP manufacturing sites and equipment portfolios
• Document and detail architecture principles and standards across control, SCADA/HMI, orchestration, and Manufacturing IT layers (ISA-95)
• Carry out assessments and gap analyses of existing automation landscapes and prepare input for roadmaps

MTP & Modular Production

• Contribute to MTP-based concepts: module (PEA) definitions, service and state models, POL orchestration
• Write user requirements and functional specifications for modular equipment and its integration
• Contribute to Memo3's MTP method kit: templates, reference architectures, and lessons learned from projects

Project Delivery

• Own defined work packages within client projects and report progress, effort, and open points
• Prepare, co-facilitate, and document workshops with engineering, automation, IT, and QA stakeholders
• Work with our automation engineers to move concepts into implementation

Compliance

• Apply GAMP 5 and data integrity requirements (21 CFR Part 11, EU GMP Annex 11) to automation concepts, with guidance where needed
• Prepare deliverables that hold up in client QA reviews and audits

Your Profile

Must-have

• Degree in automation, electrical, process, or chemical engineering, computer science, or a related field
• 2–5 years in automation engineering, automation consulting, or project roles in pharma, biotech, or other GMP environments
• Good understanding of control system architectures (PLC, DCS, SCADA/HMI, batch) and ISA-88 / ISA-95
• First experience writing requirements or specifications
• Basic knowledge of GAMP 5 and computerized system validation
• Confident in client-facing communication

Strong Advantage

• Experience with MTP (VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658), NOA, or modular production concepts – from projects, a thesis, research, or a vendor or integrator role
• Experience with bioprocess equipment or single-use technologies
• Knowledge of COPA-DATA zenon, Siemens (TIA Portal, WinCC, PCS neo), or Beckhoff TwinCAT
• Exposure to MES integration and OPC UA
• First consulting or system-integrator experience

Personal Skills

• Structured thinker who documents clearly and keeps decisions traceable
• Eager to learn and take on responsibility step by step
• Clear communicator with engineers, QA, and management
• Fluent in English; German is an advantage
• Willingness to travel to client sites across Europe
