Job summary

Memo3 GmbH seeks an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to own automation architectures for modular production projects. You will design, implement, and commission automated systems in GMP environments, bridging traditional PLC/SCADA with MTP, Soft PLC, and orchestration.

You will lead technical topics, guide juniors, and help shape Memo3’s automation stack while collaborating with clients across Europe. This role offers a remote-friendly setup and opportunities for cross-site deployment.

Qualifications

• Degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, or a related field.
• 5–10 years hands-on experience in automation engineering or control systems.
• Strong expertise in PLC programming (e.g. Siemens TIA Portal / S7, Beckhoff, Rockwell).
• Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (e.g. COPA-DATA zenon, WinCC).
• Experience in GMP-regulated industries (pharma, biotech, food & beverage).
• Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, PROFINET, Modbus, MQTT).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and commission automation solutions for life sciences and process industries with MTP architectures.
• Develop functional specifications, control strategies, and automation concepts.
• Implement MTP-based architectures (PEA, POL) and Plug & Produce integration.
• Parameterize PLC and Soft PLC applications; integrate with MES/ERP and data platforms.
• Plan FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ in GMP environments.
• Support pre-sales, technical workshops, and customer demonstrations.

Job description

Lead automation engineer for MTP-based Plug & Produce solutions in life sciences and process industry. Full lifecycle ownership from specification through GMP qualification, bridging classical PLC/SCADA/HMI with modern MTP, Soft PLC, and orchestration.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will taketechnical ownership of automation architecturesin modular production projects and act as a key interface between client requirements and implementation.

You will design, implement, and commission advanced automation solutions in GMP-regulated environments and play a central role in bringingMTP-based plug-and-produce systemsto life.

In addition, you will contribute to internal standards, guide junior engineers, and actively shape Memo3’s automation approach and technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and commission automation solutions for the life sciences and process industries, with a strong focus on MTP (Module Type Package) architectures and Plug & Produce integration.
• Develop functional specifications, control strategies, and automation concepts
• Modular Production & MTP
• Implement MTP-based architectures (PEA, POL), parameterize PLC, Soft PLC applications and Plug & Produce integration
• Design scalable automation concepts for modular production environments
• Integrate automation systems with MES, ERP (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Dynamics), and data platforms
• Use simulation tools and digital twins for virtual commissioning and testing
• Qualification & Compliance

Plan and execute FAT, SAT, commissioning, and IQ/OQ/PQ activities

• Ensure compliance with GMP, GAMP 5, and 21 CFR Part 11
• Advanced Topics
• Apply industrial cybersecurity principles (IEC 62443) Deliver brownfield upgrades and modernization projects
• Pre-Sales & Technical Consulting

Support solution design, effort estimation, and technical workshops

• Contribute to customer demos and concept development

Your Profile

• Must-have
• Degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer science, or a related field
• 5–10 years of hands-on experience in automation engineering or control systems Strong expertise in PLC programming (e.g. Siemens TIA Portal / S7, Beckhoff, Rockwell)
• Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (e.g. COPA-DATA zenon, WinCC)
• Experience in GMP-regulated industries (pharma, biotech, food & beverage)

• Nice-to-have

• Knowledge of ISA-88/95, NOA, or Pharma 4.0 architectures
