A leading university hospital in Aachen is looking for a Cell biologist (Postdoc position) for full-time research in tissue engineering. The role involves developing 3D tissue models and using novel biofabrication methods. Candidates should have a Master's and doctorate in relevant fields, along with substantial lab experience. The position offers a bonus, educational opportunities, and other benefits including access to public transport and an in-house kindergarten.
The Department of Dental Materials and Biomaterials Research (ZWBF) is looking for a
Operational area: Department of Dental Materials and Biomaterials Research (ZWBF)
Working hours: Full-time 100% (currently 38,5 hours/week)
Duration/Term of employment: till 31.03.2028 with option of prolongation
Start date: as soon as possible
Remuneration/Rates: EG 13(TV-L)
The team at the Department of Dental Materials and Biomaterials Research conducts research in the field of 3D tissue engineering. The work focuses on the development of new types of 3D tissue models. Novel biofabrication methods such as 3D bioprinting are used in the production process. Tailor-made hydrogels serve as matrices for the cells. The in vitro models can be used to investigate as yet unexplained physiological and pathological mechanisms. Such 3D models are also used to screen new drug candidates. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, scientists from various disciplines work together in our team on a transdisciplinary basis.
Your tasks:
You will work in an S1 cell culture laboratory. Your role will involve developing novel in vitro 3D tissue models. To do this, you will apply various biofabrication methods, particularly bioprinting techniques. You will synthesize suitable hydrogels and hydrogel blends, and characterize their biological, rheological, microstructural, and mechanical behavior. The aim is to adjust the properties of the gel blends so that they mimic the extracellular matrix of the target tissue. These novel in vitro models will be used to investigate physiological and pathological processes which are not yet fully understood. Such tissue models can also be used as pre-screening platforms for novel drugs, particularly in tumor research. This can help to reduce the number of animal experiments required. Due to the complex transdisciplinary research focus of our group, you will interact closely with colleagues of our team from other scientific backgrounds, such as bioengineers, biotechnologists and materials scientists.
